2006年10月に博士課程を修了し，博士（工学）を取得したYalcin Alver君が２年ぶりに来日し，
9月1日には都市再生プロゼミで
Cycling in Urban Environment and a Good Example to Rental Bicycles: “Call a Bike”
というタイトルで講演を行いました．内容は下記です．
Cycling has become popular all over the world. There are many reasons that cycling is popular and many countries are promoting it. In some Asian countries the reason people use bicycles is economical. Bicycles are very cheap and do not need expensive and special infrastructure. However, in Japan even though the car ownership rate is very high, still people are cycling. The reasons can be traditional habits, loss of parking space, environmental issues.
Cycling is also very popular in Europe, Especially in north western Europe. Cycling facilities and infrastructure have been well promoted in Europe. Nowadays bicycles have a very important share among all other transportation modes. Netherlands, Denmark and Germany are the pioneer countries in Europe for cycling infrastructure.
Today rental bicycles are being used more frequently. Tendency to using rental bicycles has started in Europe. There are many rental bicycle companies, but the biggest one is in Germany. In Germany, German Railway Company Deutsche Bahn operates rental bicycles since 2002. Today they have more than 10.000 rental bicycles all over Germany. System is very well organized and a unique system that people can rent bicycle anywhere they see a free bicycle by calling the rental center and they leave the bicycle anywhere that they want. This system has been working successfully for seven years now and still growing not only in Germany but also in other countries. This system is called “Call a Bike”.
Yalcinは卒業後半年間，日本に滞在し，2007年4月から2009年3月の2年間はドイツベルリン工科大学で，
2009年4月には助教授として母校トルコエーゲ大学で研究を続けています．
講演会の後，研究室の皆と近くの焼鳥屋で懇親会を行いました．
「居酒屋で飲む日本のビールは最高！」と奥さんのNinel共々，久しぶりの日本を楽しんでいました．
この後，3週間くらいは熊大にいる予定なので，卒業生諸君，久しぶりにYalcinに会いに来ませんか？
