Sept. 10, 2024 On Sept. 6, 2024, the 2nd International Joint Seminar on Advances in Water and Flood Management was held at Kumamoto University. This seminar is part of the Academic Exchange Program Series (IKWRM-AEP20240906), organized by the Global Research Network for Indigenous Knowledge in Water Resources Management (IKWRM).
During the seminar, Prof. Durga Prasad Sangraula, Principal of the Advanced College of Engineering and Management in Nepal, discussed water and sediment-related disasters, their countermeasures, and recent research advancements in Nepal. Dr. Tran Ngoc Anh, Director of the Center for Environmental Fluid Dynamics at VNU University of Science in Vietnam, presented the challenges and recent progress in water resources management, including the applications of AI in Vietnam.
Prof. Koji Sassa introduced new prediction schemes based on the classification of convective systems in meteorology, while Dr. Shinichiro Onda from Kyoto University shared insights on recent advances in numerical simulations for flood and sediment transport.
Attendees also visited the experimental facilities of the River Environment Laboratory at Kumamoto University, where Prof. Hiroshi Cho showcased the facilities for studying river and coastal phenomena, along with newly deployed measurement devices.
Following the seminar, attendees engaged in discussions about potential joint research and academic exchanges in the near future.
